KA’s® Dinah Flo Dahlia
Dark, dramatic, and apparently allergic to being overlooked. KA’s® Dinah Flo layers electric pink-fuchsia and purple around a moody dark center, then finishes the whole production with pointed petals and darker reverses. Subtle was apparently not invited.
KA’s® Dinah Flo is a 2026 introduction hybridized by Kristine Albrecht of Santa Cruz Dahlias in Santa Cruz, California, United States.
The approximately 4–4.5 inch Formal Decorative blooms are saturated with rich pink-fuchsia to purple tones surrounding a substantially darker center. Darker coloring on the reverse of the petals adds even more depth, especially as the blooms open and those contrasting surfaces become visible.
Then there are the petals themselves.
Their slightly pointed tips sharpen the otherwise orderly Formal Decorative form and give the flower a little extra attitude—which, frankly, Dinah Flo did not appear to be lacking.
Plants grow to approximately 4 feet tall and produce multiple blooms that have already attracted plenty of attention from flower growers and florists. The strong color contrast makes Dinah Flo especially useful when a bouquet needs something richer and more dramatic than another soft pastel.
It can play beautifully with pinks and purples, but there's enough darkness running through the bloom to give it real visual weight.
This is not the dahlia you tuck quietly into the back of an arrangement.
Dinah Flo knows why she's there.

Moose’s Take
This one isn't going to be confused with the endless parade of soft blush dahlias.
And I mean that as a compliment.
KA’s® Dinah Flo has the kind of color that makes you stop. That darker center surrounded by saturated pink-fuchsia and purple gives the bloom an almost glowing quality, and then the dark petal reverses add another layer every time the flower moves or opens.
I especially like that it's dramatic without needing to be enormous. At around 4–4.5 inches, you get plenty of visual punch without needing a bloom the size of a dinner plate to accomplish it.
And those pointed petals give it just enough edge to keep the Formal Decorative shape from feeling overly polite.
Basically, Dinah Flo showed up dressed for a nice garden party, then somebody noticed the leather jacket under the blazer.
That's much more interesting.
For me, this is a dahlia for growers who want strong color and contrast—not another flower that politely blends into the background.
The Moose does not generally object to subtlety.
He just prefers when subtlety knows when to get out of the way.
