KA’s® Opal Cliffs Dahlia
Short Teaser
Tiny blooms. Towering plant. Serious flower power. KA’s® Opal Cliffs turns soft, opalescent pink into petite 2.5-inch blooms bred specifically with florists in mind—and then produces them on a plant that apparently missed the memo about staying petite.
KA’s® Opal Cliffs is a 2026 introduction hybridized by Kristine Albrecht of Santa Cruz Dahlias in California, United States.
And this one wasn't created simply because Kristine needed another pretty pink dahlia.
Opal Cliffs was bred in response to florists and designers looking for a smaller pale-pink bloom for bridal and event work. The result is an approximately 2.5-inch Formal Decorative flower with soft, pale-pink coloring and a beautiful opalescent quality that deepens toward baby pink near the center.
In other words, somebody finally asked a dahlia to be elegant without taking up half the centerpiece.
Opal Cliffs obliged.
But don't mistake those little flowers for a little plant.
Plants can reach approximately 5.5 feet tall and are reported to be vigorous growers, producing those petite blooms on strong stems. The flowers are also noted for good vase life—exactly the combination you'd hope for from a variety developed with professional floral work in mind.
The small bloom size makes Opal Cliffs especially interesting. Rather than dominating an arrangement, these flowers can provide beautiful dahlia form and texture at a scale that's easy to work into bouquets, centerpieces, bridal work, and other designs.
Soft color. Petite blooms. Strong stems. Heavy flower production.
Apparently Opal Cliffs received the assignment and then did the extra-credit section.

Moose’s Take
This is one of those dahlias where the breeding story makes me like the flower even more.
Kristine wasn't simply chasing another beautiful color. Florists wanted a smaller pale-pink dahlia that was actually useful for design work, and KA’s® Opal Cliffs was bred to fill that need.
That makes sense to me.
At roughly 2.5 inches, these blooms give you all the structure and personality of a Formal Decorative without showing up in a bouquet like a moose trying to squeeze into the middle seat on an airplane.
There's room for everybody.
I also love the contrast between the flower and the plant. The blooms are these dainty little opalescent-pink things, while the plant can reportedly charge toward 5.5 feet tall.
So basically: ballerina flowers growing on a linebacker.
Add strong stems, heavy production, and reportedly good vase life, and this becomes much more than another pretty KA's introduction. It's a dahlia that appears to have been selected with an actual job in mind—and then turned out ridiculously good-looking anyway.
The Moose appreciates an overachiever.
