Florelie Omen Dahlia
Some omens are supposed to be warnings. Florelie Omen is a warning that you might need a bigger cutting garden.
Straight from Australian breeder Lorelie Merton, Florelie Omen is a beautifully distinctive dahlia with rich watermelon-pink blooms, delicate orange-gold petal tips, and dark stems that provide a striking contrast to its warm, romantic coloring.
The flowers have the neatly arranged, symmetrical petals of a miniature formal decorative dahlia. There's something particularly appealing about the combination of their refined shape and unusual color. Depending on the light, those pink petals can take on a smoky, dusty-rose appearance, while the subtle golden-orange tips add just enough warmth to make the blooms stand apart from more traditional pink varieties.
And Florelie Omen isn't just another pretty face.
Australian growers report excellent flower production, strong cutting stems, and impressive performance in bouquets and floral arrangements. The dark stems add another dimension to its appeal, particularly when paired with blush, copper, antique rose, burgundy, and other warm, sophisticated colors.
Plants typically grow approximately 4–4.5 feet tall, providing plenty of height for the cutting garden. Its miniature formal decorative blooms offer the kind of refined detail that works beautifully in mixed arrangements, where smaller, perfectly formed flowers can be every bit as valuable as the big, showy dinnerplates.
For gardeners who appreciate unusual color combinations and florists looking for something beyond ordinary pink, Florelie Omen offers a compelling combination of beauty, productivity, and cutting potential.

Moose's Take
I have a real appreciation for dahlias that bring something different to the cutting garden, and Florelie Omen certainly checks that box.
The watermelon-pink coloring is beautiful on its own, but those little orange-gold tips and contrasting dark stems are what make this variety particularly interesting. It's a combination you don't see every day.
And when several Australian growers are reporting prolific flowering and excellent cutting stems, that gets my attention. A dahlia can have all the good looks in the world, but if it doesn't produce flowers worth cutting, it's mostly just taking up valuable real estate.
As for the name, I'm choosing to interpret this Omen as a sign of good things to come. If the garden starts behaving strangely, though, I'm blaming the dahlias.
Florelie Omen is a distinctive Australian introduction that deserves a spot on the wish list of anyone who appreciates beautiful, unusual cut flowers.
