Hapet Blackberry

Hapet Blackberry looks like it rolled into the garden wearing hot pink lipstick and absolutely no intention of being subtle.

Bred by Peter Haslhofer of Peter’s Dahlien in Austria, Hapet Blackberry is a beautiful ball dahlia with a color that manages to be both sweet and dramatic at the same time. The breeder describes it as light pink with blackberry-lilac speckling, and that honestly fits it pretty well—although in the garden it can also read as bright rosy pink with deeper berry-toned shading depending on the bloom and the light. Either way, it’s one of those flowers that makes people stop, stare, and start asking questions.

The blooms are generally around 3 to 4 inches across, with neatly rolled petals that give the flower that classic, tidy ball form. Plants reach about 4 feet tall, making it a lovely choice for the cutting garden and for anyone who likes their dahlias polished, eye-catching, and just a little bit extra. Peter’s own catalog calls it a variety with a striking color tone and labels it a collector variety, which feels about right. This one doesn’t just blend into the border and behave itself. It shows up, glows, and expects to be admired.

Moose’s Take: Hapet Blackberry has that dangerous combination of being adorable from across the garden and even better up close. It’s cheerful, punchy, and just fancy enough to make you think you’re exercising restraint while buying yet another pink dahlia. You are not. But I support you in this excellent lack of restraint.
