Levi’s Crimson Dawn Dahlia

Short Teaser

Levi’s Crimson Dawn is a richly colored American dahlia bred by Levi Tremblay of Levi’s Dahlias. Its approximately 1–3-inch, miniature decorative blooms open in deep raspberry-crimson and dark pink tones, sometimes softening toward antique pink and pale coral as the season progresses. With abundant flowers, impressive stems, and promising tuber production reported by growers, this little beauty has plenty to offer beyond its good looks.

Full Product Description

Levi’s Crimson Dawn Dahlia — A Little Flower with a Dramatic Entrance

Some dahlias need enormous flowers to make an impression. Levi’s Crimson Dawn apparently missed that memo.

Bred by Levi Tremblay of Levi’s Dahlias in the United States, this striking variety packs remarkable color into beautifully rounded, miniature blooms.

The flowers emerge in rich raspberry-crimson and dark pink, with subtle purple undertones that give them depth and character. In sunlight, the petals can take on a luminous quality that makes the flowers practically glow.

And just when you think you've figured out the color, Crimson Dawn has another surprise.

Growers report that the blooms can soften into dusty, antique pink tones and even pale coral as the season progresses. The result is a plant that can offer several complementary shades at once, particularly later in the growing season.

The approximately 1–3-inch flowers have closely arranged petals and a rounded, almost ball-like appearance. Although some growers describe the variety as a small ball, DahliaAddict classifies it as Miniature Formal Decorative, which is the classification we're using here.

Plants reach approximately 4 feet tall, making Crimson Dawn a useful addition to cutting gardens and mixed dahlia plantings.

But here's where things get particularly interesting for those of us who grow dahlias for more than just their pretty faces.

Willow Rock Acres describes Crimson Dawn as one of its most prolific varieties, praising its stems, flower attachment, and vase performance. Belgravia Homestead also reports excellent productivity and tuber production.

Those are individual grower observations rather than guaranteed results, but they're encouraging qualities for a relatively new addition to many growers' collections.

For floral designers, Crimson Dawn offers a versatile combination of small blooms, rich coloring, and rounded flower structure. Its raspberry and dusty-pink tones work beautifully with blush, burgundy, mauve, cream, and other romantic color palettes.

Whether you're growing for bouquets, filling a cutting garden, or simply collecting beautiful dahlias, Levi’s Crimson Dawn deserves a closer look.

Moose’s Take

There's something about a dahlia named Crimson Dawn that makes me picture a dramatic sunrise, a little fog rolling across the field, and somebody playing the opening music from an old Western.

Then you see the flower, and it actually lives up to the name.

What catches my attention is that rich raspberry color. It's not quite red, not quite purple, and definitely not your ordinary pink. And when those blooms start shifting toward softer antique tones, you've got a whole collection of colors coming from the same plant.

But the reports about productivity are what really get my attention.

A beautiful dahlia is wonderful. A beautiful dahlia that keeps producing flowers, has good stems, and makes plenty of tubers? Now we're talking.

Levi’s Crimson Dawn may be small in flower size, but it certainly isn't short on ambition. And around here, I appreciate a plant that shows up ready to work.
