Levi's Maelstrom Dahlia
A beautiful little whirlwind of buttery cream, champagne, and blush. Levi's Maelstrom is a stunning 2027 introduction from American dahlia breeder Levi Tremblay, featuring fluffy, approximately 3–4-inch blooms with gently twisting petals and soft peach-blush coloring near the center. With its romantic appearance, reported strong stems, and manageable 3½-foot height, this Miniature Formal Decorative dahlia is a lovely addition to cutting gardens and floral arrangements.
Full Description
With a name like Maelstrom, you'd expect something wild, dramatic, and perhaps a little dangerous.
Instead, Levi's Maelstrom shows up looking like it belongs in a bridal bouquet.
But don't let those delicate colors fool you. There's plenty of personality packed into this beautiful little dahlia.
Introduced for 2027 by American hybridizer Levi Tremblay of Levi's Dahlias in Minnesota, Levi's Maelstrom features gorgeous blooms in shades of buttery cream, pale yellow, champagne, and soft blush. Gentle peach tones gather toward the center, creating a warm glow that gives the flowers remarkable depth without overwhelming their soft appearance.
The blooms measure approximately 3–4 inches across, with layer upon layer of gently curling and twisting petals. Rather than forming a perfectly rigid sphere, those petals create a fluffy, flowing appearance that gives each flower wonderful texture and movement.
It's a particularly appealing combination: the soft coloring of a romantic wedding dahlia paired with a lively, almost windswept petal arrangement.
At approximately 3½ feet tall, Levi's Maelstrom is relatively compact compared with many taller decorative dahlias. Early grower reports describe long, strong stems and excellent flower attachment, with petals extending back toward the stem and blooms held at attractive angles.
Those characteristics make it a promising choice for cutting gardens and floral design, where stem quality and flower presentation are especially important.
The soft cream, butter, and blush coloring would pair beautifully with champagne roses, pale peach dahlias, white cosmos, and other romantic garden flowers.
As a new introduction, Levi's Maelstrom is still building its growing record. Detailed information about its productivity, measured vase life, and performance across different climates remains limited. One grower has also reported better performance during cooler weather following a period of intense summer heat.
For gardeners looking for something elegant without being ordinary, Levi's Maelstrom offers a distinctive combination of delicate color, interesting petal structure, and exciting new American breeding.
It's soft, it's fluffy, and it's got just enough attitude to keep things interesting.

Introduction: Spring 2027
Levi's Maelstrom is an original introduction from Levi Tremblay, an American dahlia hybridizer whose breeding work emphasizes distinctive colors, attractive flower forms, and strong garden performance.
Part of his 2027 introduction collection, Maelstrom stands out for its gently twisting petals, luminous cream-and-champagne coloring, and soft peach-blush center.
Moose's Take
Somebody needs to have a little talk with Levi about naming dahlias.
A maelstrom is supposed to be a violent, swirling force of nature. Something that sends ships to the bottom of the ocean and makes sailors question their career choices.
And then Levi gives us this fluffy little sweetheart in buttery cream and blush.
That's like naming a golden retriever puppy "Destroyer of Worlds."
But I have to admit, the name starts making sense when you look at those petals. They twist and curl in every direction, creating their own little whirlwind of color.
And the soft champagne tones are just gorgeous.
I particularly like the reports of strong stems and good flower angles. A pretty dahlia is wonderful, but a pretty dahlia that knows how to hold its head up is even better.
Levi's Maelstrom might not sink any ships.
But I suspect it'll cause a few people to lose their bearings in the dahlia garden.
