RM Candy Mountain Dahlia

Soft pastel petals, playful pops of pink and yellow, and a whole lot of personality. RM Candy Mountain is a colorful new American dahlia that looks like Mother Nature took a stroll through the candy aisle and decided to get creative.

Some dahlias are elegant and understated. Others are bold and dramatic. RM Candy Mountain decided to have a little fun.

Introduced in 2026 by River Merle Farm in Washington, this delightful new variety produces approximately 4-inch Formal Decorative blooms in a cheerful mixture of soft pastel colors accented by brighter pink and yellow tones. The combination creates a playful, multicolored appearance that sets RM Candy Mountain apart from more traditionally colored dahlias.

The flowers feature the neatly arranged petals characteristic of Formal Decorative dahlias, giving each bloom a balanced, rounded appearance. Their compact size makes the individual flowers easy to appreciate up close, while the colorful petals provide plenty of visual interest.

And don't let those relatively petite flowers fool you.

RM Candy Mountain grows approximately 5½–6 feet tall, making it a substantial presence in the garden. With plants reaching that height, sturdy staking is recommended to help protect the stems and support the plant throughout the growing season.

The colorful blooms offer an appealing option for gardeners who enjoy unusual color combinations. Their mixture of pastel shades and brighter accents can add a cheerful touch to garden beds and mixed floral arrangements.

As a recent introduction, RM Candy Mountain is still building its reputation among growers. One independent grower reported that it flowered later than other dahlias in their garden during the 2026 season, although additional growing experience will be needed to determine whether that is a consistent characteristic.

What we do know is that RM Candy Mountain brings something wonderfully different to the garden. Its playful coloring, tidy flower form, and impressive plant height make it an intriguing addition for dahlia collectors and gardeners looking for something new.

Moose's Take

RM Candy Mountain sounds like the sort of place my grandkids would want to visit, and frankly, after a long day in the greenhouse, I might be willing to tag along.

The flowers have that same colorful, slightly outrageous personality you'd expect from a mountain made entirely of candy.

Soft pastels, bright pink, a little yellow — apparently nobody told this dahlia it needed to settle on just one color.

And at nearly 6 feet tall, this is one Candy Mountain that's going to require some serious climbing equipment. Or at least a good set of stakes.

The best part? You can enjoy all that sweetness without a single cavity.

My dentist would approve.
