SB's KA's Choice

SB’s KA’s Choice Dahlia

Tiny flower. Enormous résumé.

Bred by Steve and Sandy Boley in the United States and introduced in 2023, SB’s KA’s Choice is an award-winning red Pompon producing tightly packed blooms approximately 1.5–2 inches across on surprisingly tall plants reaching roughly 4–5 feet.

Officially, the American Dahlia Society puts it in the Red color class. In the garden, the coloring has considerably more personality—a rich, muted raspberry-red with bronze and coral undertones that can be remarkably difficult to stuff into one ordinary color description.

The blooms are small, round, densely packed with petals, and carried on plants unusually tall for a Pompon. Growers also report strong production and long stems, giving KA’s Choice plenty to offer beyond the show bench.

And about that show bench...

SB’s KA’s Choice took Best Bloom of Show, Best Small Bloom, and Best Pom at the 2024 San Leandro Dahlia Society Show, where more than 650 entries competed. It has continued earning recognition in American Dahlia Society competition, including Cream of the Crop and Fabulous 50 honors.

Apparently nobody told the little guy he was supposed to be intimidated.

Moose’s Take

SB’s KA’s Choice is barely 2 inches across and has already won Best Bloom of Show.

The Moose is considerably larger and has won absolutely nothing.

I find this both impressive and personally insulting.

Plant it. Apparently we're all working for the tiny red overachiever now.
