Severin’s Triumph Dahlia
Some dahlias make a grand entrance. Others have been making one since 1932.
Severin’s Triumph is a gorgeous heirloom German dahlia that proves great genetics never go out of style. Its generously sized, fully double blooms are packed with beautifully layered petals, ranging from soft blush pink to warm salmon and peach tones. Delicate, pale petal tips add definition, while the tightly curled inner petals create an intricate center that’s almost impossible not to admire.
And then there’s the color. In softer light, Severin’s Triumph can look like a dreamy, delicate pink. Catch it in the evening sunshine, and suddenly those blooms are glowing with warm salmon and peach tones. It’s practically a different flower depending on when you visit the garden.
With blooms typically reaching 6–8 inches across, this historic decorative dahlia brings plenty of presence to the garden. Its romantic coloring also makes it a beautiful choice for cut flower arrangements, especially alongside creams, blush pinks, and other soft garden tones.
Nearly a century after its introduction, Severin’s Triumph still knows how to command attention.
The Moose’s Take: Almost 100 years old and still looking fabulous. Meanwhile, I make a noise every time I get out of a chair. Clearly, this dahlia has figured out something I haven’t.
